A Little Background on National Ocean Day

Originally proposed during the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, National Ocean Day—also known as World Oceans Day—was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008. The goal is simple: to raise awareness about the impact of human activity on the ocean, promote conservation efforts, and celebrate the vital role oceans play in our lives. 

It’s a day for education, reflection and action—and a chance for all of us to think about how we can leave a lighter footprint on the water.
